“EntreFamílias” initiative marks International Family Day in Guarda

In Guarda , International Family Day, which is celebrated on May 15th, will be symbolically marked with the “EntreFamílias” initiative, which will promote several activities in kindergartens and 1st CEB schools in the city’s public and private networks, with the involvement of families and the school community. The activities aim to highlight the importance of emotional bonds within the family and also between colleagues and educators.
At the Sequeira Kindergarten, there will be a shared reading of stories in the morning, at 10.30 am, using the “paper theatre” technique, which helps children to understand and deal with moments of separation, showing that family ties are present even when they are not seen.
At 4:30 pm, the Sé Kindergarten welcomes families for participatory reading sessions and the “Stories from Home” activity. The challenge will be to bring a story, a game, an art or a profession to the establishment, promoting the sharing of experiences and socializing among everyone.
The initiatives aim to highlight the importance of family involvement in the educational context and attest to the importance that the Municipality attributes to the policy of supporting families.
The Guarda Municipal Council has implemented several measures designed to meet the needs of families at different stages of life. In 2024, the National Association of Municipalities recognised the added value of these actions and distinguished the Guarda Council as a Family-Friendly Local Authority, a distinction that has been awarded to the municipality in recent years, from 2018 to 2024. The assessment took into account municipal policy measures in terms of support for maternity and paternity; support for families with special needs; basic services; education and training; housing and urban planning; transport; health; culture , sport , leisure and free time; cooperation, institutional relations and social participation and good practices in reconciling work and family.
International Family Day, celebrated annually on May 15, was the date chosen by the UN General Assembly in 1993 to promote reflection on the role of the family in society and encourage the creation of policies that promote family well-being.
